Sometimes a Light Surprises

Sometimes a light surprises the Christian while he sings:
It is the Lord, Who rises with healing in His wings:
When comforts are declining, He grants the soul again
A season of clear shining, to cheer it after rain.

In holy contemplation we sweetly then pursue
The theme of God's salvation, and find it ever new.
Set free from present sorrow, we cheerfully can say,
Let the unknown tomorrow bring with it what it may.

Tomorrow can bring us nothing but He will bear us through;
Who gives the lilies clothing will clothe His people, too;
Beneath the spreading heavens, no creature but is fed;
And He Who feeds the ravens will give His children bread.

Though vine nor fig tree neither their wonted fruit should bear,
Though all the field should wither, nor flocks nor herds be there;
Yet God the same abiding, His praise shall tune my voice,
For while in Him confiding, I cannot but rejoice.

Words by William Cowper

Music has always influenced me greatly; it can be painful and healing for me.  The other night in family worship we sang this song (and I didn't cry!).  It actually has a remarkably upbeat tune, which might surprise you when you read the words.  If you know anything about William Cowper, you might also be surprised at the words!  He was definitely a man who could sympathize with someone suffering in darkness and then rejoice at being surprised by light--God bringing healing in His wings.

I don't know if you want an update on us or not, but I thought I'd give you a little one anyway (this is my blog after all).  Since our baby is no longer with us, we have needed God's comfort.  He has sent that comfort in many ways:  His Word, music, many friends and family.  We are still sad, but not despondent.  I still randomly cry a little bit, but not as often or as painfully.  Thank you for lifting us up in prayer during this time.  I can't explain it like I want to, but we do feel the strength of the Lord, and I know that your prayers are involved!

Tuesday I went for a follow-up visit to the doctor, and thankfully I did not need any further procedures.  Now my body is at work restoring itself, as our Creator made it to do.  We are praying for a third child to bless our family, but in God's time.

Thank you again for your prayers and love.  I wish that I could get all the hugs that were offered to me, but Thomas and Isaiah are doing a great job giving lots of love!

Dear Cristy,

I don't know if you remember me, but I began following your blog a little while ago; I'm the one that nannies for a little girl with Spina Bifida.

When I read of your loss a few posts ago, my heart ached for you. I am so sorry, and could not imagine the pain that would cause.

Until yesterday, when at 6wks3ds I miscarried my own little one. The grief is great, but our Lord is greater. Praying for you, as we pray for our healing.

Dear For His Glory,

I do remember you and remember reading several great posts on your blog!

I will be praying for you and your family. I am so sorry that you, too are experiencing this grief right now, but I am thankful that you know the One to Whom we can look for all our comfort. Please let me know if there is anything that I can do for you beyond lifting you up in prayer.
